I am incredibly honoured to be an Ambassador to Australia’s first Alliance of our 9 National Disability Sport Organisations coming together to form Australian Sporting Alliance for People with Disability (ASAPD).
This was initiated by many but driven by the Australian Sports Commission to improve the outputs of more people with disability enjoying sport.
All are committed under ASAPD to collaborate together, share resources, intel and insights with the common goal of ensuring everyone no matter what their disability has a sporting chance.
The NSOD’s involved represent lead organisations whose participant numbers, members and volunteers involve millions of people across Australia, and include:
- Blind Sports Australia
- Deaf Sports Australia
- Disability Sports Australia
- Disabled Wintersport Australia
- Riding for the Disabled Australia
- Special Olympics Australia
- Sport Inclusion Australia
- Transplant Australia
It’s wonderful thought leadership in action and it’s going to help Australia be the number 1 country for participation in sport for people with disability.
A special mention to the relentless work snd vision of Robyn Smith OAM Matthew Clayton Garry West-Bail and my personal hero, a long serving incredible human being and proud advocate of the Deaf community, who has taught me so much about service, and …who I met some 20 years ago when I would first learn of Deaf Sports Australia and then later join their board - Phil Harper.
