This morning with ABC's Ned Hall, I shared my concern on the potential lack of equity with International Paralympic Committee's event viability rule.
While it is equal in the application of the rule, that is the rule includes that individual medal events at the Paralympics must include at least 10 athletes from at least four countries on the world ranking list.
The concern is when decisions are made on what classifications are included, that this hard and fast rule may disadvantage those who are in the classes with the most severe impairments.
We know that athletes with more complex needs require more support and specialist coaching. This requires investment from Australian sporting organisations who may not always have the capacity to facilitate, nor potentially is that funding to close this equity gap factored in when Government's make funding decisions. Maybe they are?
Denying athletes the right to a high performance pathway because they have more complex need is disheartening and concerning.
